Since VMware have just released a new version of VMware Server that fixes a problem with Red Hat 7 guests :

I can only assume that one of their customers that pays for VMware support is still using Red Hat 7 !

I have just tried CentOS 5 and am a bit disappointed
- The LIVE-CD gives me a blank screen on my IBM Thinkpad
- The INSTALL-DVD still doesn't have a graphical installer
- I asked for a desktop build and (unless I misread something) its only created a root user and I first have to log in as that
I'm afraid I'm going to stick with gNewSense & Xubuntu for the moment at least for my desktops and notebooks !
Ubuntu 6.06
breaks after running update manager !
and
Ubuntu 7.04
is broken from the beginning!
- cannot install on 800x600 screen
- disk partitioner refuses to overwrite debian partition
- WiFi is broken (duplicate adapters and neither works)
- USB mouse becomes dead paperweight after just three minutes
- VMware Server 1.0.3 does not install (even if you download all of the dozens of fixs and patches available on the web)
Ubuntu 6.06
It is impossible to install or remove any software.
Please use the package manager "Synaptic" or run "sudo apt-get install -f" in a terminal to fix this issue at first.
Does this help ?
# apt-get install -f
