"For Feisty, xresprobe is not included in the default installation. 

In theory, this should not be an issue for most people, however I think for people
who don't have xresprobe installed, if they reconfigure Xorg then the new xorg.conf file
could result in incomplete monitor detection, and thus lead to this bug. 

This could also occur if the user installed a new monitor or video card and
re-ran `sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver- xorg` without first installing xresprobe. 

It could also occur if a user upgrades from Edgy or Dapper to Feisty, and xresprobe
gets uninstalled, and then the user reconfigures xorg. 

As I understand, this was a unique change for Feisty, and wouldn't affect Edgy or Dapper
users since as I understand xresprobe was installed by default in those.

For gutsy we've altered things such that xresprobe is once again installed by default,
so behavior should at least return to where it was with Edgy and Dapper. 

In at least one dupe of this bug, having xresprobe present seems to have helped.

Because Debian 4.0 isn't perfect (yet) there is still a place for Ed/X/Ubuntu !

Imperfections :

• text based installer only optional (ideal for low spec machines like xubuntu-alt)
  
• my third install (in 48 hours) has failed with a big red screen because it couldn't "autodetect" a printer
• using aptitude to uninstall either fast-user-switch or gdm insists on uninstalling the entire gnome desktop and most gnome apps !
• vmware mouse doesn't leave debian guest window unless you are running vmware-toolbox
  

Debian has huge potential with over 18,000 packages on its 3 DVDs (basic install only uses ~800) and there is some great documentation out there :

Ubuntu 7.04 released TODAY already has updates available !

Does anyone actually use Ubuntu "network-admin" ? It's so flaky that I have to use wifi-radar instead and I'm not the only one https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/ !

Q: What's the difference between EDIMAX EW-7108PCG and a EDIMAX EW-7108PCG apart from the colour ?

A: The light red one works (on EdX/Ubuntu GNU/Linux) and the dark red one DOESN'T !

Another clue that I should have spotted is that the FCC ID numbers are different !

Morals:

If your Ed/X/Ubuntu GNU/Linux PC hangs EVERYTIME you boot it you have probably put a "dark red"
card in by mistake !

And NEVER believe anyone that says a particular Wi-Fi card works under GNU/Linux I've also had the same experience with NETGEAR PCI Wi-Fi cards with the same part number where v2 works and v3 doesn't and a single BELKIN PCI Wi-Fi card that sometimes appear as two devices which I wouldn't mind if it were'nt that  neither worked !

A Wi-Fi card works ONLY if it works and has little to do with it's part number !

SchoolTool is a project to develop a common global school administration infrastructure that is freely available under an Open Source license.

• SchoolTool Calendar and SchoolBell are calendar and resource management tools for schools available as part of the Edubuntu Linux distribution.
• A SchoolTool student information system is being developed and tested in collaboration with schools in Lithuania and Belgium during the 2006 - 2007 school year
• CanDo is a SchoolTool-based skills tracking program developed by Virginia students and teachers to track which skills students are acquiring in their classes and at what level of competency.

xserver-xorg-core

i know its always risky (i've trashed 4 installs so far) upgrading your xserver

but there are some compelling security reasons to upgrade to
version 1.0.2-0ubuntu10.5 (SECURITY UPDATE)

• Arbitrary code execution with root privileges via heap overflows in DBE and Render extensions.

• Add 'debian/patches/993_ubuntu_dbe-render_overflows.dpatch' from upstream
• References    CVE-2006-6101 CVE-2006-6102 CVE-2006-6103
